Our Eyes are Our Lives. Care for it so we can wake up to clear vision everyday!

For years, I was clueless that I was not seeing clearly! One might ask, “how is that possible that you do not know that your vision is deteriorating?” Most of us were born with perfect eyesight. We took it for granted that perfect eyesight will always be our companion.
However, with each passing year of being in school, and now more than ever, being in front of digital devices, each and every day, our eyesight changes slightly and slowly; but consistently. This gradual change is what make us unaware of the ongoing deterioration within the inside of our eyeball. It never crossed my parents’ mind that I need to see an eye doctor just for a
check-up. I came to an eye doctor’s office only after a near fatal car accident at the age of 16 years old. The few seconds of a near-death experience that flashed before my eyes can never be forgotten. It was this very significant incident that shaped my future career. I chose the profession of an eye care physician to help protect children’s eyesight from further deterioration.

Now, I often tell my patients that our eyes are our lives. In order to protect our lives, we first must protect our eyesight. Therefore, one can conclude that vision is essential for our survival. After being in private clinic for the last 20 years, focusing on preserve and prevent nearsighted prescription from getting “out-of-control”, I came to realized that not only do we
need to understand the underlying causes and treatment of nearsighted but we need to provide care in simple ways for patients and parents to want to “join force” with us. We can be the best doctors and provide the best care but if patients and parents do not understand our instructions, then they won’t benefit from our care.
I hope that OrthoK Eye Health Blog will, first help understand why we need to care for our eyes the best we can and also secondly, place the utmost and prioritize our eye care for the best possible healthy eyes so we can wake up each and everyday to clear vision.
